Mine came a bit tight so that the arced alloy prong would not retract fully after each press, left about a quarter inch sticking out below the hole in the stop, which would make it difficult to load. Tried lubing the joints with silicone to no avail. Finally realized that the pivoting rivet had simply been over-pressed, so gently but firmly inserted a butter knife between the plates on both sides, loosen things up a smidgeon. Action is fine now, though I do still find the Cuisipro ever so slightly awkward to use. Its fairly smooth plastic handle does not allow for the firmest grip (though when pitting sour cherries their sticky juice tends to glue my hand on more securely). Think a pistol type handle might have been a better design choice, with a thumb indent on top. Just a minor quibble, because this pitter is certainly more comfortable to hold than the conventional metal, scissor shaped models which tend to abrade the skin on my hands. Yeah I process loads of cherries (don't do olives.)Helpful Hint: Always refrigerate cherries prior to pitting. This will both preserve and keep them firm so they don't get mangled and loose so much juice in the process (especially necessary for sours, which are a lot softer than the sweets). And don't forget the FruitFresh, so that they don't turn brown.

I've owned two other cherry pitters previously, one a cheapo from China and the other one from Williams-Sonoma; this one works much better than either of those. I love making lots of desserts with cherries when they are in season, and this one works very well and can be cleaned in the dishwasher.
